![]() She encouraged me throughout my years during college and always pushed me to be a strong successful woman and reach for my dreams, as she did. Throughout the years, we have become friends and apart from doing my hair she has always made time to answer silly questions I send her on facebook about celebrity client's hair, new treatments they are having at the salon, recommendations for restaurants when we have gone to the same place for vacations. She was nothing but gracious to me and and I remember leaving that day thinking what a remarkable person she was to be so young successful and have her own her own business, but most of all I couldnt believe how down to earth she was, that this now superstar colorist, treated me the same way she did Jessica Simpson. And if anyone knows her you love this about her, you dont think its unprofessional, this is a part of her personality that is great. When I got to the salon in the old space, yes my first visit was a little bit nerve racking however I was met with this young girl who was under thirty standing there in a tshirt jeans and sneakers, no indication that she was THE RITA HAZAN herself except the gold rolex on her wrist, that is one of Rita's signatures. I loved Jessica's amazing blonde and thought she was extremely talented. I do not recommend.Long Time Customer Sets Records Straight – Wow, I cant believe all of the negative stuff I am reading about the salon and most importantly about Rita herself.Rita started doing my hair when I was 18 years old and had seen her on an episode of newlyweds, and decided she needed to color my hair. Everything else was literally the worst salon experience I've ever had, included witnessing the dated color techniques of the colorists. The floor managers were nice, and that was the only decent part. No, your salon working environment is terrible, and it's not setup to help new assistants learn or thrive. They have a mentality that "if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere". Once I got there, I was appalled at the lack of skill from the colorists, the lack of education, and the way the assistants were being used in the hopes of one day working in the salon. I was excited to try Rita Hazan and "learn from the best". Rita's current assistant has been with her for 6 years! Hello, people, you are being taken advantage of. At Rita Hazan, their assistants are treated like the housekeepers to the head colorists, and kept in "training" for minimum 5 years. A salon that is truly supportive of their team will teach their assistants while on the job, and promote them on the floor once they are ready. Modern salon assistants are not glorified housekeepers and should not be kept in training for more than three years. It is great to be part of a transformation in clients externally and internally. Most enjoyable part of my job is styling hair. Hardest part of the job is mentioning a balance with the new floor management guidelines and trying to best assist the head stylist. My co-workers are fun and helpful but often overwhelmed. Rules and regulations are constantly changing because management is still trying to figure out a regiment that complies with NYS guidelines. The salon is going under changes and trying to comply with New York state laws and requirements in regards to their employees. Salon is undergoing different management meaning there has been new management since I started and new rules set for the salon. How to process Brazilian keratin treatments as well as Japanese treatments. I learned how to address and work with high profile clientele. Cleaning and packing away head stylist station and prepping the salon for the next day of work. Shampooing clients, prepping clients for all services. Assisting head stylist with clients and customer servicing clients as well. Typical work day consist of setting up head stylist station, stocking bar, towels and products.
